“Love and Olives” My Review

Fiction + Romance + Young Adult

“Do you know what I love the most about this place? You are never quite alone when you are in a bookstore. So many voices are jammed into one place, it is impossible to feel alone.”
― Jenna Evans Welch, Love and Olives

Book Title: Love & Olives

Author: Jenna Evans Welch

Length: 528 pages

Genre: Romance, Fiction, YA

My Rating: 5/5

My Age Rating: 11+

Content Notes: Clean, just kissing and no strong language, emotional themes, mental health, parent abandonment

“He said that there are two types of silence, the silence that is empty and the silence that is full, and it’s never hard to figure out which one you’re dealing with.”
― Jenna Evans Welch, Love and Olives

Book Synopsis:

Liv Varanakis doesn’t have a lot of fond memories of her father, which makes sense—he fled to Greece when she was only eight. What Liv does remember, though, is their shared love for Greek myths and the lost city of Atlantis. So when Liv suddenly receives a postcard from her father explaining that National Geographic is funding a documentary about his theories on Atlantis—and will she fly out to Greece and help?—Liv jumps at the opportunity.

But when she arrives to gorgeous Santorini, things are a little…awkward. There are so many questions, so many emotions that flood to the surface after seeing her father for the first time in years. And yet Liv doesn’t want their past to get in the way of a possible reconciliation. She also definitely doesn’t want Theo—her father’s charismatic so-called “protégé”—to witness her struggle.

And that means diving into all that Santorini has to offer—the beautiful sunsets, the turquoise water, the hidden caves, and the delicious cuisine. But not everything on the Greek island is as perfect as it seems. Because as Liv slowly begins to discover, her father may not have invited her to Greece for Atlantis, but for something much more important.

My Review:

Okay, let’s talk about Love & Olives, this book is the 3rd book in the Love and Gelato Series and in my opinion is the best in the series. It is technically a standalone, so if you only read one, make it this one.

This book surpasses the others in every way. The writing, the romance, the characters, and especially the love interest. He literally stole my heart. And yes, I know he’s fictional. I’m dealing with it.

Set in Greece, this book is perfectly planned from the cover to the chapter names to the summer vibes it gives off. The ending left me speechless, probably one of the best romance endings I have ever read. Also, the main character lives in a little bedroom inside a bookshop, which is basically my dream come true. (Also, a little spoiler… she shares it with Theo… hehehe… I’m just going to leave you with that tidbit of information!)

Content wise this book is very clean. With no bad language and the romance never goes past kissing. There is one mention of birth control but nothing crude. My picky little sister read it and loved it, that says it all.

So get to work, you have a new book to read and I would suggest getting to it!

Happy Reading,

Ava

P.S. If you plan to read the whole series, save this one for last. The others don’t stand a chance in comparison and they don’t deserve that.
